The Passage

A Journey That Transforms Life is a five-day intensive residential retreat program that focuses on unconditional presence. This experiential program was developed by William Spear after years of work in Oriental philosophy and complementary medicine, in-depth training with Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Tibetan lama Sogyal Rinpoche and three decades of experience with people in transition. The Passage is a path of personal transformation, providing a safe space in which participants can face and release past and present issues that prevent them from experiencing life fully in the present.

The atmosphere of The Passage is one of respect, confidentiality and compassion. Each individual's experience is unique: most participants report powerful results, including renewed inner strength and courage, a profound sense of unconditional love, the ability to be in everyday life and a deep appreciation of life's blessings.

In addition to The Passage, the Fortunate Blessings Foundation offers Open Heart, Deep Spirit, a three-day residential retreat focusing on discerning the path of destiny, creating the future, and embarking on the next step in self-development namely, freeing one's energies to be of unconditional service to our fellow human beings and the planet. Participation is contingent on acceptance into the program, and on completion of at least one Passage.

Both The Passage and Open Heart, Deep Spirit are offered at locations carefully chosen to provide participants with safety and privacy, in surroundings of natural beauty. To support the work in progress, whole foods are prepared according to macrobiotic principles. Participants are accepted into both programs on the basis of a written application. The facilitators include William Spear, Ellen Goldsmith, Claudia Kirchmayr and Lucila Valente who bring to these programs a wide range of backgrounds and talents including acupuncture, shiatsu, movement therapy, song circles, craniosacral work, Gestalt therapy, macrobiotic counseling and work with AIDS and cancer patients.

The Passage has been offered since 1987, and Open Heart, Deep Spirit since 1995. Participants come from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life. The course can be of particular benefit to people coping with life-threatening diseases or the after-affects of traumatic experiences: social workers, physicians, nurses, hospice workers and other health-care practitioners who deal with life and death on a daily basis in their professions. The course is well suited to anyone facing his or her own particular challenges or simply open to exploring the power of unconditional presence in everyday life.
