2011 Retreat

September 18 - 23, 2011

THE PASSAGE

A Journey That Transforms Life

2011 Retreat

Facilitated by William Spear
at the Still Meadow Retreat Center in Oregon

The Still Meadow Conference and Retreat Center is 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Portland, only a half-hour drive from downtown Portland and the Portland International Airport. The property is located on 60 acres of forest and meadow with a year-round running creek, hiking trails and a sauna. The rural setting and forest provide a nurturing setting to support healing, renewal, reconciliation and personal work. Created in 1976 as an intentional community, the property is now a retreat center. There are several buildings close together on lovely landscaped grounds.

The Passage will have exclusive use of the facility during the workshop.

Check-in on Sept. 18 is between 3-5 PM, in time for the evening meal at 6 pm. The Passage ends with lunch on Sept. 23 and departure by 2 pm. Participants MUST be present at both the opening supper and closing lunch.

PRICE IS US$1,795 IF PAID IN FULL BY JULY 1, 2011 or US$1,950 thereafter includes tuition, double occupancy for 5 nights, and 3 high-quality, delicious macrobiotic meals a day starting with supper on Sept. 18 and ending with lunch on Sept. 23. A few single rooms may be available for an additional $350 for the 5 nights. All bathrooms are shared. Group is limited to 25 participants.

Registration is limited to participants whose applications are approved by the facilitators.
The Application form is on this website.
GENERAL information

WHAT TO BRING: September around Portland offers Fall weather with temperatures ranging from 75 F (24 C) by day and to about 52 F (11 C) at night. Since it rains frequently in the area a raincoat and umbrella are handy. Bring all the toiletries and medications you might require as there are no shops, restaurants, etc. in walking distance. Leave home your finery and makeup: dress is comfortable and casual. A flashlight is useful after dark. Note that doors at the Center do not lock. Bathrooms are shared.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Activities, meals and rest periods are built into the program, so there is no need to leave the retreat center. Any and all trips off-site for sightseeing, shopping, entertainment, etc. are best planned for either before or after The Passage; you might keep this in mind when considering a rental car since it will sit idle during the workshop. When planning your departure date, please note that launching into a hectic travel schedule immediately after completing The Passage can be counterproductive. Past participants stress the importance of the days immediately following The Passage for integrating and assimilating the experience rather than hurrying back to one s personal and professional life. It is recommended, therefore, that you spend a few days in a minimum-stress environment.
TRAVEL information to

Venue: Still Meadow Conference and Retreat Center, 16561 SE Marna Road, Damascus, OR 97089, USA
Tel: (503) 658-8793 - Fax: (503) 658-4799 www.StillMeadowRetreat.org

By Air: Fly into Portland International Airport. The distance from the airport to the Still Meadow Retreat Center is 23 miles (37 km) and total driving time is approximately a 1/2 hour, depending on traffic. There is no public transportation service to Damascus or the Still Meadow Retreat Center.

Option 1: (highly preferable in terms of cost and efficiency). If there is sufficient demand, a round-trip chartered van may be organized between the Portland Airport and Still Meadow. The van will leave the airport on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2:30 pm for an approximate cost of $15 per person, one way payable directly to the driver. The return trip will leave Still Meadow on Friday, Sept. 23 at 2:30 pm. Please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to reserve a seat going to or departing from the Center, by checking the appropriate boxes on the Registration Form (mailed to all accepted Passage participants).

Option 2: For about $45 one way, you can arrange car service with Northwest Concierge 503-866-0100 or Broadway Cab 503-227-1234.

Option 3: Rent a car at the airport and drive to Still Meadow. Advantage: you will have a car at your disposal. Disadvantage: the car will sit idle during The Passage. If you rent a car, it can be helpful to other group members to possibly share the ride (and the cost).

By Car: From I-205, take exit 12 to Clackamas/Estacada heading east on Hwy 212/224. Travel 3.1 miles to the "Y" of Hwy 212/224 and at the traffic light, bear right onto Hwy 224. In one mile you will pass through Carver where the road curves to the left. Travel about 2 more miles and turn left onto Marna Road. Follow Marna Road about 1/4 mile to the top of the hill. Just past the cedar home on the left, watch for the Still Meadow sign marking the gravel driveway. Follow the drive to parking area.
